They shelter us from life outside whilst engaging with our contemporary moment; they allow us to rest whilst readying us for engagement. With our multidisciplinary approach, encompassing architecture, interior design and furniture design, we combine craftsmanship and theory to elevate the quotidian. Stairs lead to nowhere, arches become entrances to shelves. The space is about fantasy. Not the traditional retail fantasy of transformative commodities, rather a totally unexpected and unknown relationship opens up between the visitor and the pieces within. The basic shapes of stairs, curves, arches, and nooks, once contained in the white box, transform into a museum collection, a collection of memories that each visitor will pair with their own to create a singular experience. The deliberately unsymmetrical layout encourages exploration, a sense of the unknown; a riposte to the uninspiring uniformity of replicated stores. A gridded ceiling above unifies the fragments into a total environment. Its’ glowing light casts a synthetic atmosphere to the store, emphasising the sense of it being a space apart from others. As with the contrasting fragments of architecture, differing aesthetics combine to enlivening effect. The rigidity of the grid and its resolutely modern connection to Italian radical design &amp; Superstudio contrasts to the amorphous plaster organic niches, which in turn contrast to the regal Pierre Paulin like character of the seating nook, a calming moment of sumptuous luxury. And then another unexpected twist - a terracotta glazed screen facade referencing Asian Modernist architecture, anchoring this otherworldly space with a grounding connection to the local environment. design for The Standard, Ibiza operates in dialogue with its situation in the heart of downtown Ibiza. The crisp white exterior of the building, conceived of by Lázaro Rosa Violán, who developed the initial Interior Architecture for the project, together with Carlos Ferrater, the Architect of the new building, is reminiscent of Los Angeles and, more pointedly, The Standard’s first hotel located on the Sunset Strip. This inspired us to introduce a Californian approach to the interiors which naturally married well with Ibizan aesthetics. We wanted the rooms to feel minimal, a little sparse even, reflecting the desire in hot climates to have a stripped back interior &amp; a need for lightness. The Standard is synonymous as a resolutely urban brand, they are, in their essence, hotels for a fast paced city break. The Ibizan outpost still needed to feel like a party could spontaneously happen at any moment, whilst paradoxically being a calm oasis, a place to vacation. For grounding effect, we opted for a muted colour palette supported by a largely organic materiality of travertine, hessian, cotton and wood befitting the landscape of the Island.To soften the newness of the building, we layered classic furniture designs in the 67 bedrooms alongside vintage European pieces in the public spaces to disrupt the perfection and add a note of tactility and age. For the flagship restaurant, Jara, we sought to evoke the mood of a more traditional Brasserie, a moment of formality as a mood change to the famously hedonistic nightlife. Our design for the Johor store embodies this contemporary experience of city life by playing with the dichotomy of soft and hard. A Brutalist aesthetic of rough plaster and cold, repellent stainless steel contrasts with the buttery leather upholstery and plush carpeting. As a leather accessories brand, we sought to incorporate leather into the store’s materiality but in an unexpected way. The large column is orbited with leather clad shelves &amp; the inset display panels are lined with the same, the unexpectedness of the applications heightening the luxury of it. Similarly, the hush of the carpeted back room &amp; the very nonsensicality of it in a commercial environment makes it all the more calming.
